A day in Luang Prabang

18 January 2010 3 Comments

Luang Prabang is a fantastic city, its pretty small and has an incredibly relaxed feel about it. I spent a couple of days just wandering around and could have stayed for a few more.

Temples

Temples and stupas are found on almost every corner in Luang Prabang, most of which are very ornate. The city is home to the largest number of monks in Laos and every morning they can be seen walking the streets collecting alms.

Markets

Every night the main street through Luang Prabang is filled with stalls as the night market springs into action. A fresh produce market takes place every morning on the streets behind the National Museum with everything from fruit and vegetables to raw meat being sold.

Sunset over the Mekong

Along the river there are plenty of places to grab a sundowner and watch the sunset.

Great food

 A day in Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang has many great options for eating, but my favourite comes in the form of a small stall just off the night market. It opens every night from around 5.30pm and provides a buffet of vegetarian food for just 8000 kip. I ate here several times and was never disappointed. The cakes at the choco bakery were also a highlight.

I agree about the loveliness of Luang Prabang. I ate at the same vegetarian buffet as you did a number of times. Delicious food. I also went crazy on the local food street eating all kinds of grilled fish…so good!

This is very useful. I was wondering how easy vegetarian food would be to find in SE Asia. If there are buffets, I am set!
