Temples of Angkor Part 3
Today is the concluding part of my visit to the temples of Angkor. On my third day there I once again hired a motorbike and driver this time to take me out East to the Roluos Group of Temples. The Roluos temples are amongst the earliest large, permanent temples built by the Khmers.
Lolei
Lolei has four brick towers that are in pretty bad shape and a modern temple right next door. It was interesting to see the contrast between new and old. Whilst at Lolei I met a monk who teaches English to the local children in a classroom he had built himself underneath one of the wooden buildings that the monks live in.
Bakong
Bakong is the largest of the Roluos Group of temples and is also the most impressive. Some of the carvings on the central tower are in great condition. Restoration work is being carried out on some of the stupas that surround the central temple which again provides a nice view of then and now.
Preah Ko
To be honest, by the time I reached Preah Ko I was pretty much templed out. Preah Ko did however manage to keep my interest as it has some of the best examples of plaster work at Angkor with more restoration currently under way.
That brings us to the end of my visit to the temples of Angkor. Before I finish, here is one final photo, a replica of Angkor Wat found outside Preah Ko.
