Yuyuan Gardens in Shanghai

It took me quite a while to find the Yuyuan Gardens as they are hidden away inside a bazaar full of the usual flashing toys, panda hats and silk scarfs that are sold at every touristy place in China. The gardens are stunning. Amongst the plants and trees are several red pavilions, ponds filled with carp, little bridges crossing the ponds and streams, and many shaded areas that are great to sit and read in. I spent most of an afternoon in the Yuyuan Gardens trying to forget that the rest of Shanghai is currently either a shopping area or a building site.
