Photo of the week – On the river in Varanasi

Every morning from sunrise hundreds visit Varanasi’s ghats for their morning prayers and rituals. Large figurines of various gods are carried down the steps to the water where they are cast into the Ganges river and allowed to float down stream. Whilst out on a sunrise boat ride I spotted another boat with a net being dragged behind it gathering up all of the figurines that had washed up onto ghats further down the river.
