Sugar cane juice

 Sugar cane juice

Feeling very dehydrated in Mumbai I came across a stall that was proving to be very popular with the locals. I watched as glass after glass of the drink produced by the stall was drank. The frothy, creamy looking drink turned out to be sugar cane juice. The sugar cane is stacked high above the stall and pushed through the mincing machine to squeeze the liquid contained within. Each sugar cane is pushed through several times to get every last drop of liquid out of it. A little lime is crushed with the sugar cane too for a little flavour and the mixture is gathered below in a straining dish used to remove bits of sugar cane. Served in small, large and giant glasses at 3, 6 and 9 rupees respectively, it is obviously very sweet, but is surprisingly thick, never the less it goes down very easily on such a hot day.

Sweet. Watch out for it in South America too (it's called jugo de caƱa methinks). You can actually get a bit of the same taste back home – Pepsi Raw tastes kinda similar to me.
