Table Mountain
Table Mountain is notorious for having a layer of cloud obscuring the summit, some call it a table cloth as it appears to drape over the edges. When the clouds are covering it, the cable car is closed and it is not deemed safe to climb up either, the views wouldn’t be up to much anyway. On arrival in Cape Town we all noted that Table Mountain was cloud free, it was too late to climb, so we all settled for a trip up in the cable car.
The views from the top really are spectacular. Cape Town is spread out surrounding the mountain and the mountain range can be extending south all the way down to Cape Point.
I had been planning to abseil down Table Mountain, the highest commercial abseil in the world, but after reaching the top, my fear of heights kicked in and I decided that it was just a bit too high. I had also been looking forward to climbing up and I was very pleased that the opportunity came two days later with Cathy and Erinska. The three of us completed the walk in 1 hour 20 minutes using the Platteklip Gorge route, apparently the easiest as the rocks have been positioned into steps for the majority of the climb. After sitting on a truck for 6 weeks it was still quite a challenge.
