Standing on top of Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls themselves weren’t that impressive, but standing right on the edge with the Zambezi river flowing around the rocks I was standing on was spectacular. Victoria Falls is the longest falling curtain of water in the world, running on both the Zambia and Zimbabwe sides of the Zambezi. I only visited the Zambia side, as it would have cost an additional $100 to go to the Zimbabwe side after you pay for a double entry visa for Zambia, a visa for Zimbabwe and the entry to the falls on the Zimbabwe side. Unfortunately for us, the low level water on the top of the falls meant that there were relatively few falls for us to see compared to what would have been there a month earlier. The low water level did however give us the opportunity to climb across rocks and the river bed to reach the very edge of the falls which would not have been possible a month before. Standing on the edge watching the water rush over the edge and a rainbow forming below is a memory that will stick with me for quite some time.
