Stone Town night market

 Stone Town night market

When night falls on Stone Town on Zanzibar the square next to the water front transforms. Hundreds of stalls selling a range of sea food and deserts fill the square surrounded by a mass of chefs all dressed in white. Sea food kebabs and pizzas which are really filled pancakes are sold by most of the stalls, with each stall claiming to be better than the rest.

After having a dinner at a nearby restaurant we went in search for dessert at the night market. Chocolate and banana pizzas didn’t sound too good to me, but the girls I was with decided to give them a try. The chef made a pancake from a small ball of dough and filled it with a sliced banana and a few pieces of Cadbury’s chocolate. This was then folded over and fried until brown on both sides, before being served on a paper plate smothered in Hershey’s chocolate sauce. I tried one small piece, but it was far too sweet for my liking. The girls however managed two of the pizzas each!

This crazy! I met these guys!….The banana-choc pancake thing was great! They kept asking the girls if we wanted a photo with them, when they said yes the old one would pinch their bottom just as the picture was taken. Hilarious.
