The countdown has begun

Around the world travel blog

I’ve survived almost four months of living at home, and have gone from counting down weeks to counting down days. It is now only ten days until my adventure begins!

I still have a few small things to do before I go, but everything major was done months ago. My pre-trip todo list currently looks like this:

  • Copy music onto netbook and import to itunes.
  • Format external hard disks.
  • Scan travel documents and store copies on netbook, external hard disks, usb stick and webmail.
  • Print copies of travel documents for parents.
  • Book trains for India
  • Scan the pages of my lonely planet books that I want to take with me. They are far too heavy to carry!

I am most definitely very prepared and just itching to go. Next Thursday can’t come quick enough!

Why did I not think to scan the pages of my travel guides??!! My backpack was half full of ridiculously heavy books which seemed like a good idea at the time but not when you have to lug it around on your back for hours at a time.
Have a great time! I bet you’re counting down the hours till you leave

    Dan,

You’re a legend. It’s 17 days until our trip – thanks for the handy ‘to do list’!

Copies of travel docs for the ‘rents – great idea!

We’re also taking a laptop so as well as having copies of travel docs we’ll also have some scanned in and readilly accessible on my Yahoo Mail account. We’ve also got to print off a load of passport pics for visas etc.

It’s always hard to keep up with other blogs when on the road but I’ll definitely be keeping tabs of what you’re up to. Maybe you’ll be fortunate enough to find a load of happy Glaswegins fuelled up with Bucky on your Indian train journey…

    Andy

I didn’t have scans of guidebooks when I went on my trip last April, but that’s because I didn’t bring a laptop. I’m thinking of getting a netbook for my European trip next year, though, and I think scans would be great. I did bring photocopies of some pages that I thought I would need (particularly maps of the cities I was visiting), and dumped them along the way.

I also had four photocopies of all my travel documents (passport, tickets, etc.) and other important stuff I had on me (ID card, credit cards, ATM cards, etc.). One in my daypack, one in my backpack, one at home, and one with my mother.

This list is actually quite handy for any upcoming trips I’m taking, haha!

Its a good idea to scan the pages out of the travel book, or you can just rip the whole sections out and staple them together. We started to do that before we left our book in Sweden…
