Tropical beach in Scotland?
The water is crystal clear and the beach is deserted, the only people around are those atop a nearby hill watching seals basking in the sun. The beach, composed of countless pieces of broken coral, glistens in the sun, which has made its only appearance of the day just as we arrived at Coral Beach. Its hard to believe that this beach is actually in Scotland. Normally when one thinks of Scottish beaches, images of Ayr or Aberdeen beach come to mind, neither of which I consider pleasant, never mind beautiful. Coral Beach really is something else; a tropical beach that has somehow ended up in Scotland.
I may have missed out on seeing whales at the most westerly point on Skye, but at least I saw some seals at Coral Beach. The coastline around the beach plays home to a number of seal colonies, which appeared to be curious about who the visitors to their beach were. A couple were spotted swimming around in the water, well their noses were. When seals surface for air their nose is the first thing that surfaces, so lots of seal noses could be seen bobbing about. From the top of a nearby hill, I saw several more seals diving into the water from the rocks and as we left Coral Beach we spotted loads basking on the rocks of a small island. They were all a bit too far away to get any decent pictures though.
Coral Beach is located at the north west tip of the Dunvegan peninsula of Skye, just beyond Dunvegan Castle.

Very pretty! Is it soft or sharp like glass?
It was soft like sand, but more coarse-grained.
Looks idyllic. All it needs is a few palm trees!
I've always loved the beaches in Skye. I've just never managed to get back to them since I first discovered them
