Walking the West Highland Way

West Highland Way

On Tuesday I will be setting off to walk the West Highland Way – a 95 mile walk from Milngavie at the outskirts of Glasgow to Fort William. I have decided against camping because I don’t own a tent and I don’t really want to have to carry one. Instead, I have booked a mixture of hostels, bunk houses and a wigwam to sleep at along the way.

The amount of time spent walking the West Highland Way is a personal choice. I have chosen to attempt it over 6 days, but it common for people to spend anywhere from 4 to 10 days walking it, some even choose to run it – the current record is 15 hours 44 minutes and 50 seconds! My plan is as follows:

West Highland Way Map
  • Day 1: Milngavie to Drymen, 12 miles
  • Day 2: Drymen to Rowardennan, 15 miles
  • Day 3: Rowardennan to Crianlarich, 20 miles
  • Day 4: Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy, 13 miles
  • Day 5: Bridge of Orchy to Kinlochleven, 21 miles
  • Day 6: Kinlochleven to Fort William, 14 miles

Hopefully the weather will be good so that this long walk isn’t made any tougher.
