How to buy an International Driving Permit
In order to hire a car and drive abroad one typically needs an International Driving Permit (IDP). Its essentially a version of your own country’s driving license translated into multiple languages. The IDP is not however a license in its own right, it is merely confirmation that you hold a driving license in another country. It must therefore be accompanied by your original driving license when you use it abroad.
IDPs can be purchased from motoring associations in most countries. In the UK, both the AA and the RAC issue IDPs and charge a grand total of £7.50 including postage, alternatively it can be purchased from branches of the Post Office for £5.50. The IDP is linked to both your driving license and your passport, so you will need to provide copies of both when you apply for one.
When searching google for an International Driving Permit, the results are full of links to scam websites that refer to the IDP as a license and try to charge a fairly high price for it. These sites are even more evident if you search for variations of International Driving License rather than permit, so be careful.

I’ve never tried it!
I wish I was smart enough to get this when I was overseas. I got my divers license in Korea and when I came back to the US, did they except it? Nope. And some 2 years later I still haven’t found the time to do all the things required of me in order to get a drivers license.
Thanks for sharing the tips with us. Getting the drivers permit is real difficult. In Florida we get the eligibility for driver permit first we need to complete the drug and alcohol course.
