Itinerary for Africa

18 April 2009 4 Comments

In Africa I will be travelling from Nairobi in Kenya to Cape Town in South Africa with Acacia Africa. The tour departs from Nairobi on August 9th and I arrive two days prior to that in order to attend the pre-departure meeting in Nairobi on the evening before the tour. My flight from London arrives on the night of the 7th so I’ll have a day to explore Nairobi before the tour begins.

For the 6 weeks of the tour I will be travelling by truck for the most part with jeeps being used during safaris. Its a participatory tour so I’ll be taking my turn to help to prepare meals for everyone, cleaning the truck and setting up the campsite each night. There is a maximum of 24 people on the tour, so the group could be fairly big, but it apparently averages around 16. 6 weeks on a truck may sound pretty boring, but when you consider where the tour goes, boring is the last word I would use to describe it:

The tour ends in Cape Town on September 20th, but I don’t fly out until the 24th so will have a few days to enjoy there. I would like to hike up Table Mountain and then abseil down it. Its the world’s highest commercial abseil! In addition to that I’d like to see the penguins at Boulders Beach and perhaps go Shark Cage Diving.

After Africa I will be heading to Asia, starting in India.

oh, sounds like a great start to your travels! you spoken to Simon Collery to find out if he’ll still be in Tanzania or thereabouts during your time there?

Re: group cooking – can’t see you cooking meat/fish meals for rest of the tour!

I’ve enquired about the cooking situation. Basically everyone is expected to take turns helping to prepare the meal, washing and chopping veg etc I wouldn’t need to handle or cook any meat.

I doubt I’ll have time to meet up with anyone during the tour as apart from when I’m on Zanzibar and at Victoria Falls the days are organised for the group.

Duh I meant you can ask Simon for info on local weather, food types, language, phrases etc, seeing as he’s been living in & around Tanzania for over a year now

Hey Dan, you travelling, sounds like some trip. I’ll see you before you go, not sure if I’ll be back there when you are there. Hopefully see you next week, Yetunde, and I’ll be suffering from withdrawal symptoms from African ladies! xxs
